Mt. Angel School District provides school health services through a contract with Willamette Education Service District (WESD).  Our District nurse collaborates with each school as well as the district to provide individualized health plans, districtwide trainings as well as attends parent meetings and acts as a liaison between the district and the physician's office to gather necessary medical information.  Health Services to students are provided in a variety of ways, depending on student need.

Communicable Disease Management Plans:

The "Communicable Disease Management Plans" for the 2023 - 2024 school year have been updated. See each school's plan.

Medication Only:

For students who will need medication administered at school, parents need to come in to their child's school and complete a blue medication card.  The medication must be in the original container.  Prescriptions must have doctor's order written on it, clearly labeled.  All staff who administer medication have been trained by our district nurse.  For further information regarding administering medication at school, please see the Board Policies in the column to the right.

Health Management Plans:

There are students who require individualized Health Management Plans in order to be safe at school.  These plans are written by our district nurse in collaboration with the parent and the treating physician.  They are distributed to appropriate school staff as necessary for safety.  Plans are reviewed/updated at least annually or more frequently if new medical information is made available.

504 Plans and IEPs:

Some students have health needs to the degree that they will require accommodations in order to access their education and may need a 504 plan.  For more information on Section 504, click HERE.

For students who are on Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) and also have health needs, a health management plan can be addressed through the IEP process.  For more information on Special Education, click HERE.

Immunizations:

The Oregon Health Authority requires all children to have their immunizations up-to-date to stay enrolled in a public or private school.

Hearing and Vision Screenings:

Mt. Angel School District conducts annual hearing screenings in our primary grades or based on referral of a teacher if there is a concern.  Vision screenings are completed annually in grades K-5 in collaboration with the Lion's Club.  Parents are contacted if results of the screening warrant follow up with a specialist or health care provider.  Please contact your child's teacher if you have a concern about your child's hearing or vision.
