Health K-12 Curriculum
District Overview
Health education is built on the foundation of teaching to all dimensions of the whole child. The eight main standards in health education focus on the development of knowledge and skills that students will use throughout their lifetimes –
- understanding health content and concepts
- analyzing influences
- interpersonal communication
- decision-making
- goal setting
- self-management
- advocacy
Quality health education requires time for students to develop and practice healthy behaviors, and ensures that students from every background and identity can learn the knowledge and skills to live their best, and healthiest lives.
In the Spring of 2026, Mt Angel School District completed a process to adopt new Health Educational materials to respond to the revised Health Education Standards by the Oregon Department of Education (ODE). A committee of staff from each school met to review the materials approved by ODE and parents provided feedback during the adoption process.
Instructional materials used in Oregon's classrooms need to reflect the most current information and research, and be aligned to academic content standards. To this end, these instructional materials are subject, by law, to a review process and must meet established specifications and criteria in order to be approved by the State Board of Education for use in classrooms.

MASD students follow the Oregon Health Standards that were adopted by the Oregon Department of Education in 2023. These standards help define the knowledge and skills students will need throughout their educational experience, as well as provide consistency in what is taught to students across our state to ensure quality education.
