Section 504

The Americans with Disabilities Act, often referred to as Section 504, requires the Mt. Angel School District to make accommodations to meet the needs of individuals with "a physical or mental impairment that substantially limits one or more of the major life activities of such individual." The needs of such an individual can typically be met through accommodations in the environment and do not require specially designed instruction.

When a student is suspected of having a disability that interferes with his/her education, a referral should be made to the Student Support Team (SST). The SST team makes a determination and if needed, a referral is made to the building 504 coordinator.

Specific procedural requirements include the following:

  • Eligibility established by Team;
  • Annual Review of the 504 Accommodation Plan;
  • The classroom teacher is responsible for providing accommodations identified in the 504 Accommodation Plan;
  • Reevaluation occurs at least once every three years

Mt. Angel School District also has a Section 504 Policy and Procedural Manual. Please see the attached document below, "MASD 504 Procedures and Guidelines" for more information

Senate Bill 819/Abbreviated School Day

The Mt. Angel School District would like you to know about Senate Bill 819 (SB 819) and how it applies to your student experiencing disabilities. SB 819, signed into law on July 13, 2023, represents a significant transformation in the structure of Abbreviated School Day Program Placements (ASDP) for students with disabilities in Oregon. An abbreviated school day is defined as any program in which a student receives instruction or educational services for fewer hours than the majority of other students in the same grade. To learn more about SB 819 and updated exemptions, please visit the Oregon Department of Education's website on ASDP or contact Erica Gordon, Special Services Director.
