Job Description
Job Title: Athletic Director
Reports To: Principal
FLSA Status: Exempt
JOB SUMMARY
To provide all student athletes with opportunities to develop their athletic abilities to fuel potential while safeguarding their physical welfare in an environment that promotes both high academic standards and development of teamwork, sportsmanship and desirable personal habits.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Essential duties of this position include the following. Employees in this position perform some or all of the following tasks. Other duties may be assigned.
- Follows and maintains knowledge of all Oregon School Activities Association (OSAA), League, and District policy(ies) and procedures.
- Assumes responsibility for the scheduling of all interscholastic athletic events.
- Schedules all athletic and extra-curricular event transportation.
- Provides representation for District, regional and state OADA/OSAA meetings.
- Supervises and directs the coaching staff to ensure that proper practice schedules are maintained and that OSAA/NFHS rules are adhered to by all athletic teams.
- Ensures all paid and volunteer coaches have submitted necessary paperwork with the District and are approved to have contact with our students. Informs Head Coaches of the status of adults involved with his/her program.
- Informs head coaches of the certification status of those involved with his/her program.
- Organizes or delegates responsibility for all home athletic events including, but not limited to; rosters, tickets, supervisory personnel, game and meet officials, playing fields or gym, public address system, timing device, score board, visiting team accommodations, media, flag ceremony, TV and/or radio crews and game programs.
- Supervises the coaches in the cleaning, storage, and maintenance of all athletic equipment and uniforms, including the maintenance of updated inventories.
- Develops and places into operation appropriate rules and regulations governing the conduct of athletic activities.
- Ensures all student athletes have all necessary paperwork completed and are medically cleared to participate.
- Monitors student eligibility reports and requirements.
- Ensures adherence to medical and safety requirements. Arranges opportunities for physical examinations for student athletes if possible.
- Assists in the hiring process of all coaching positions and evaluates coaches by providing input to the principal(s).
- Observes and evaluates non-licensed coaches after each season.
- Prepares and submits annual athletic budget within District guidelines and ensures compliance with program requirements.
- Coordinates with maintenance/custodial staff regarding maintenance and repair of all athletic fields and facilities.
- Purchases equipment, uniforms, supplies for athletic and extra-curricular programs.
- Participates effectively at regular team meetings with teachers and other support staff using appropriate social and problem solving skills.
- Promotes programs in harmony with other school departments.
- Personally responsible for paying any fines levied against the Mt. Angel School District as a result of his/her actions.
- Serves as District liaison between division, local and state athletic authorities.
- Facilitates meetings with coaches, staff and parents.
- Communicates regularly with administrators.
- Maintains a safe environment for students at all times.
- Assists as back-up coach, if needed.
- Inspects facilities and athletic fields for health and safety concerns.
- Chaperones/supervises athletic events and campus, as needed.
- Responds to personnel issues for the purpose of clarifying issues and implementing actions to address needs.
- Interacts thoughtfully and courteously and in a timely manner with students, staff and parents and resolves conflict in a professional manner.
- Appropriately maintains and secures confidential records and inquiries.
- Professionally represents the school and the District in interactions with parents, community, staff and students.
- Maintains appropriate certifications and training hours as required.
- Attends work regularly and is punctual.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
Supervises and directs the work of coaching staff and athletic personnel according to District policy and observes and evaluates non-licensed coaches. All school employees have some responsibility for supervising students and assisting in maintaining a safe environment.
QUALIFICATIONS

- Bachelor's degree (B.A.) from four-year college or university; or at least one year related experience or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Master’s degree (M.A.) or equivalent strongly preferred. Prior successful experience working in a school administration and coaching positions strongly preferred.

Ability to write routine reports, correspondence, speeches, and articles for publication that conform to a prescribed style and format.
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio and percent. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, proportions to practical situations.
- Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of instructions in varying forms and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
- General knowledge of computer usage and ability to use, e-mail, internet software, spreadsheets, stats programs and word processing software. Ability to type accurately and proficiently.
- Demonstrated knowledge of child growth and development at each level of instruction and of the social, emotional, physical and cognitive development of adolescent students. Strong background in the rules and regulations of student athletic sports. Possesses knowledge of effective behavior management methods and ability to solve problems with students, staff, parents, and District patrons in an empathetic and proactive manner. Ability to delegate responsibilities and meet time lines. This work requires working non-standard hours to attend games and set up and take down.
- Certificates as determined by the District. Must have a valid teaching license through the Teachers Standards and Practices Commission (TSPC). Ability to obtain a valid CPR/First Aid card, Oregon Driver License, coaching certification through the National Federation of High Schools, Steroids and Concussion classes, and bloodborne pathogen training and blood spill training.

- Follows and maintains knowledge of all District policy(ies) and procedures.
- Develops overall vision and philosophy for their program.
- Acts as a liaison for middle school and youth programs.
- Instructs and demonstrates skill sets and techniques necessary for individual and team achievement.
- Develops appropriate training programs and practice schedules.
- Works with the Principal/Athletic Director in preparing practice and game schedules.
- Plans and sets-up activities, practices and games.
- Insures a certified coach is present at all practices and games.
- Arranges transportation for athletic participants.
- Travels with student athletes on the team bus both to and from games.
- Adheres to all financial policies of the District in regard to the collection and disbursement of money, expenses, and receipts.
- Ensures that proper cleaning, storage, and maintenance of all athletic equipment and uniforms and updated inventories are adhered to.
- Makes recommendations regarding the purchase of uniforms, equipment and supplies.
- Arranges hotel room reservations for all overnight events.
- Maintains necessary records and completes required paperwork in a specified time and manner.
- Ensures that proper form(s) (insurance, attendance, medical) obtained and current.
- Ensures that all student athletes are eligible, insured, have paid their fees and are in good physical condition from the beginning to the end of the season.
- Enforces discipline policies and emphasizes sportsmanship and healthy lifestyles.
- Encourages positive student-teacher relationships.
- Supervises students in locker rooms at home and away games and ensures appropriate behavior.
- Checks and secures all office, storage room, outside doors, locker rooms and all lights after last player leaves after games and practices (Head Coach may delegate this responsibility to an Assistant Coach).
- Ensures that appropriate rules and regulations regarding the conduct and eligibility of athletic activities and athletes are explained and followed.
- Maintains a safe environment and facilities for student athletes at all times.
- Ensures that medical and safety requirements are adhered to.
- Completes District injury report for any student injured within 24 hours even if student athlete does not see physician.
- Reports and secures approval from the Principal/Athletic Director of all adults associated with their sport.
- Submits athlete rosters to the Principal/Athletic Director before the first practice, one week before the first event, any changes to student information on the roster, inventories, final season statistics and alphabetical list of award winners immediately following the season (list includes number of awards earned and the class of the athlete.).
- Consults with Principal/Athletic Director regarding the development of any off-season training programs.
- Assigns duties to all assistant coaches under his/her jurisdiction; including pre-season practice sessions.
- Interacts thoughtfully and courteously with students, staff, parents, fellow coaches, and officials and resolves conflict in a professional manner.
- Appropriately maintains and secures confidential records and inquiries.

JOB SUMMARY
This position is responsible for assistant coaching and providing direction to student athletes so that they might achieve a high level of skill as well as an appreciation for discipline, sportsmanship and teamwork in athletics.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Essential duties of this position include the following. Employees in this position perform some or all of the following tasks. Other duties may be assigned.
- Follows and maintains knowledge of all District policy(ies) and procedures.
- Exhibits loyalty to the Head Coach and Mt. Angel School District sports programs.
- Supports and models the overall vision and program philosophy as determined by the Head Coach.
- Assists instruction and demonstrates skill sets and techniques necessary for individual and team achievement in athletics.
- Assists in planning and setting-up activities, practices and games.
- Respects time allotted to practices as determined by the Head Coach.
- Travels with student athletes on the bus both to and from games.
- Adheres to all financial policies of the District in regard to the collection and disbursement of money, expenses, and receipts.
- Maintains necessary records and completes required paperwork in a specified time and manner.
- Enforces discipline policies and emphasizes sportsmanship and healthy lifestyles.
- Supervises students in locker rooms at home and away games and ensures appropriate behavior.
- Checks and secures all office, storage room, outside doors, locker rooms and all lights after last player leaves after games and practices.
- Ensures that appropriate rules and regulations regarding the conduct and eligibility of athletic activities and athletes are explained and followed.
- Maintains a safe environment and facilities for student athletes at all times.
- Ensures that medical and safety requirements are followed.
- Interacts thoughtfully and courteously with students, staff, parents, fellow coaches, and officials and resolves conflict in a professional manner.
- Appropriately maintains and secures confidential student records and inquiries.
- Professionally represents the school and the District in interactions with student, parents, community, staff and the media
- Completes and maintains appropriate certifications and training hours as required, including OSAA Coaches Certification Course.
- Assistant Coaches are personally responsible for any fines levied against Mt. Angel School District as a result of his/her actions.
- Attends work regularly and is punctual.
MARGINAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Marginal duties of this position include the following. Employees in this position perform some or all of the following tasks. Other duties may be assigned.
- Attends in-service trainings and staff meetings, as needed.
- Sanitizes and cleans equipment.
- Inspects facilities and athletic fields for health and safety concerns.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

QUALIFICATIONS
