Suicide Prevention
"According to the National Association of School Psychologists, suicide is the second leading cause of death among school-age youth. However, suicide is preventable. Youth who are contemplating suicide frequently give warning signs of their distress. Parents, teachers, and friends are in a key position to pick up on these signs and get help. Most important is to never take these warning signs lightly or promise to keep them secret. When all adults and students in a school community are committed to making suicide prevention a priority - and are empowered to take the correct actions - we can help youth before they engage in behavior with irreversible consequences." Mt. Angel School District is committed to protecting the health and well-being of all students. All staff are expected to be proactive in maintaining a safe and supportive learning environment and to immediately report to the building principal (or designee) any indications that a student may be in danger of harming themselves or others. Students are strongly encouraged to report if they, or another student, are feeling suicidal or in need of help. For details on staff development, curriculum and other resources, please read the Mt. Angel School District's Suicide Prevention Policy and Plan.
