Budget Committee Candidate FAQ

Qualifications:

  • Applicant must be a Mt. Angel resident for one year preceding appointment and a registered voter of the district.
  • No person who is an employee of the Mt. Angel School District is eligible to serve on the budget committee.

Organization, Membership, and Terms of Office: The district budget committee consists of the five elected members of the school board and five patrons appointed by the school board as required by law. Terms for the appointed members will be three years each, or until a term is completed, depending on the position.

Meetings of the Budget Committee: The budget committee shall hold one or more meetings to receive the budget message, the budget documents and to provide members of the public with an opportunity to ask questions about and comment on the budget document. Meetings begin in May of each year.

Function of the Budget Committee: It is the function of the budget committee to review the proposed budget estimates presented by the district. No new programs shall be considered for the budget estimate that have not been previously submitted to the board and approved as part of the educational plan. The budget committee will review spending levels, but does not determine programs. Upon completion of the committee's deliberations, the proposed budget is recommended to the school board for final approval.

Desirable Qualifications: Active participation in school or community activities, ability to collaborate and solve problems in a positive manner, willingness to review district budget materials and ability to attend budget committee meetings and budget work sessions. No experience needed.
