Good afternoon, Students, Families, Staff and Community Members.

Today I am reaching out to you with important information in regard to the district calendar. Specifically, there will be a  calendar change during the week of October 14th to 18th (fall conference week). Thursday, October 17th will now be a day of no school for students.

Why this Change?

Participating in fall conferences is an important event for students, parents/guardians, and school staff. The calendar you are familiar with had only one evening for parent/guardian conferences. That schedule was no family-firendly, offering no flexibility for you. In order to offer an additional evening, the calendar needed to be revised. Thursday, October 17th is now a full conference day from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. There will be no school for students on October 17th.

An Apology to You

I realize that many families have been counting on the dates on the calendar for months. This change will come as an abrupt and inconvenient change for some. I take full responsibility for this error. The mistake was caught this month and first attempts to correct the problem would have resulted in even more disruption. The decision to not hold school on October 17th was not an easy one, as each day of school for students is important. Having strong  communication and partnerships with families is also valued. You deserve to have quality time set aside to meet with  school staff.

Communication

There will be more information coming soon, but I felt it was important for each of you to know right away of this calendar change. We plan on sending out several reminders in the coming weeks to ensure that all families are aware of the change and can adjust plans.

With deep respect and appreciation for your adaptability,

Rachel Stucky
