Dear Parents and Families,

During the March 16 - March 31 school closure, free healthy lunches are available to all children and teens between the ages of 1 – 18 years old. Students and/or parents can stop by St. Mary’s Public Elementary School located at 590 E. College Street in Mt. Angel between the hours of 10:30 and 11:30 a.m. where you can pick up a sack lunch on Monday & Tuesday, March 16 & 17 and Monday & Tuesday March 30 & 31. In addition, food boxes with enough food for a week will be available to pick up on March 18, again between the hours of 10:30 and 11:30 a.m. Thank you to Marion Polk Food Share for providing the food boxes. Governor Kate Brown Announces Statewide School Closure for Students in Oregon from Monday, March 16 through Tuesday, March 31

When taking our spring break of March 20 through March 27 into account This closure only includes 5 extra school days.

“Schools are critical institutions that provide important services for all our students, but especially our most vulnerable, and during this crisis I have worked hard to ensure those critical services continue. So many of our families depend on school in order for parents to go to their jobs, and for students to access health care and receive nutrition assistance,” said Governor Brown.

OSAA SUSPENDS PRACTICES AND CONTESTS THROUGH MARCH 31

Per Governor Brown’s announcement regarding school closures, the Oregon School Activities Association (OSAA) has suspended interscholastic practices and contests for sports and activities for all member schools effective today through March 31.

Dear Mt. Angel School District Parents and Community,

With the recent diagnosis of coronavirus in Oregon, we are doing everything we can as a district to keep our students safe. The Oregon Health Authority is leading the response, and at this time, the threat to Oregonians remains low. Should the illness spread to our area, we will follow the direction of our public health officials. Any updates will be announced through Blackboard, text messaging, social media, our website, and more.

The Oregon Health Authority has not recommended any closures in our area at this time. As a precaution, we are initiating additional cleaning protocols for high frequency touch points like shared surfaces and doorknobs. We know you may want to send additional wipes and sanitizers to school with your child, and at this point that is totally fine. We have to be careful about the types of products and chemicals in our schools, however, given the circumstances we have relaxed our parameters around these. Unless your child is unwell, we encourage you to send them to school. 

The CDC recommends taking the following precautions to stay healthy:

Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds. (If soap is unavailable, use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer with at least 60% alcohol.)

• Avoid close contact with people who are sick.
• Avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth.
• Stay home when you’re sick to avoid infecting others.
• Cover your cough or sneeze with a tissue, then throw the tissue in the trash.
• Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces using a cleaning spray or wipe.

We are also working with our staff to keep our schools clean and students healthy. We have encouraged any staff with respiratory illnesses to stay home.

The novel coronavirus started spreading in Wuhan, China, so there have been some media reports about discrimination against Asians and Asian-Americans. We ask that you and your family be mindful that bullying of students based on race, color, national origin, or disability is unacceptable in our school district.
