English Learners

Welcome to Mt. Angel School District's English Language Learners Web page!

The Mt. Angel School District provides English Language Development programs for all eligible English Language Learners K-12 grades.  Each school in our district offers those eligible with at least 30 minutes of uninterrupted instruction around increasing English language proficiency skills.  The instruction addresses four domains: 1. Reading, 2. Writing, 3. Speaking and 4. Listening

Skills and proficiency levels are annually assessed through our state required English Language Proficiency Assessment (ELPA21). Scores are reported to families in a language that they use and understand and are submitted to the state as a requirement.  Each school year in the fall our Annual Measurable Achievement Objectives are released by the stated to help us gauge the district's program, trends, and plan for improvement.

Jasmine Winslow and Cyndi Smith are our K-12 ELD Specialists for the district.

Click here to access to Cyndi Smith's web page. There you will find information about the instruction that is occurring in her classrooms, supports for yourselves as parents and teachers.

Mt. Angel has formally adopted National Geographic's ELD curriculum , as the main curriculum for instruction. At elementary, it is called Reach.  At middle school, it's titled Inside and at high school it is called Edge.  We supplement instruction with Susana Dutro's A Focused Approach, using Systematic ELD and Constructing Meaning.  St. Mary's also offers ELD instructional taught by highly-qualified ESOL-endorsed classroom teachers.
